Friends of Eritrea in the UK Charity - Current Campaign

As many of our friends and family as well as the global Eritrean community will know, our father Dr Teame Mebrahtu, has long held and continues to have a strong passion for the role of Education in national and global development.

He has converted some of this passion into action by serving as an academic, PhD supervisor, author and consultant for the World Bank, DANIDA and others in different countries including Eritrea. This and similar undertakings have enabled our father to establish close links with like-minded Eritrean academics in the diaspora.

A case in point is the valuable liaison with Dr Zerai Woldehiwet, chairman of the Friends of Eritrea in the UK, who has been working on various projects in Eritrea to improve access to education.

Raising Funds for Adi Geda School Project 2023

The Friends of Eritrea UK are delighted to confirm that our new Project for 2023 will help fund and renovate an Eritrean School, the Adi Geda Elementary School.

Chairman’s Message

“Dear members and supporters of the Friends of Eritrea/UK

A Project to Support my former elementary School: Adi Geda Elementary School

As a former pupil of Adi Geda Elementary School, I recently received a letter requesting aid for my former school (which was one of the oldest schools to be established in Eritrea in the late 1940s.)

The school requires financial support to buy teaching resources such as computers and basic facilities such as chairs and desks for pupils and teachers.

I have not got the exact figure of the number of children, but I understand that the school receives about 100 new pupils every year.

Unfortunately, some of the children have to attend lessons sitting in the floor because of lack of chairs and desks and they do not have access to computers.”

Below are some recent photos of the children and the school. They are so keen to learn, happy and proud to attend school despite their circumstances!

Join us in helping the children to learn in an environment that enables them to improve their chances of a better future!
